Charles “Chuck” Barrett was called to Wayside in April 2015. He grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where his father was an Old Testament Professor at Bob Jones University and where Chuck also earned a B.A., M.A. in Theology, and Ph.D. in church history. Before coming to Wayside, Chuck served as the Interim President and Professor of Theology at Geneva Reformed Seminary in Greenville and an Assistant Pastor at a local Presbyterian church there. He serves as Adjunct Professor at Belhaven University, Chattanooga. He loves reading, hiking, kayaking, and cycling. Chuck and his wife, Bridget, have two children.
Rev. Nick Batzig was called to Wayside in July 2019. He is associate editor for Ligonier Ministries, and has served as the founding pastor of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Richmond Hill, Georgia from 2009-2018, and as the editor of Reformation21 and the Christward Collective, sites of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals. Nick is a graduate of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and studied at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. He regularly writes for Tabletalk Magazine, He Reads Truth, and Modern Reformation. He and his wife, Anna, have three sons, Micah, Elijah, and Judah. Mary Pat Mitchell graduated from Covenant College with a B.A. in English and has served in several churches and law offices as an administrative assistant. She is married to Danny. Together they sell antiques and collectibles on several online platforms. They have two children, Claire and Ben. Mary Pat enjoys reading, music, horses, and being outside.
A retired pastor and professor, Allen serves in the areas of visitation and personal discipleship. He holds a Master of Divinity in New Testament from Temple Baptist Theological Seminary and served as a Presbyterian pastor before joining the faculty of Chattanooga State in the graphic design and art department. Allen is married to Jan and they have two children and two grandchildren.
Michael grew up in Chattanooga and in 2013 received a B.A. in Music from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. He has had the opportunity to serve in the music ministries of several churches and perform music all over the southeast. He loves hiking and traveling with his wife, Chelsae.
Sherry received her BS in Elem. Ed/Sp. Ed from the Univ. of TN Martin and her J.D. from the Univ of Memphis. She practiced employment relations litigation in Atlanta where she also actively served in both the children's and women's ministries at East Cobb Presbyterian, PCA. In 1996, she, her husband, David, and their two sons moved to Signal Mountain where David had grown up. Sherry changed her practice to part-time consulting and became active in Wayside's children's and women's ministries. She and David also serve on the Board of Signal Mountain Christian School. Sherry enjoys reading, traveling and time with family and friends.
Brent was raised on Signal Mountain and graduated from McCallie in 2001. He attended FSU and UTC before entering the insurance industry. Brent is now at Financial Management Group in Hixson, TN. He is married to Amanda Bowman and they have two children. He loves to spend time outside and with his family.
Fern has been playing the organ and piano at Wayside for over 40 years! She and her husband, Farrell, both graduated from Tennessee Tech, and lived in central, east, and west Tennessee before settling on Signal Mountain 42 years ago. Fern began playing piano at age 12, then added organ. She and Farrell have three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She enjoys sewing, knitting, yard care, and other outside activities.
Larry attended Haverford College, Vanderbilt Law School, and NYU graduate school. He served active duty in the US Navy from 1967-1969, and practiced law in Chattanooga from 1971-1979. He worked in the trust department of local banks from 1979 til his retirement in 2008. Larry has been involved in Wayside's choir since 1971, and has directed on and off since 1973. He enjoys all sorts of music.
Jodi and her husband, Matt, moved their family to this area in October of 2014. She is a homegrown Texan that has found captivating adventure in the mountains of Tennessee! Jodi began playing the piano and harp at a young age; refining her skills through college, and playing professionally after graduation. She enjoys sharing her love of the Savior through music in ministry at church, and by teaching others through her business at Jubilee Music Studio. Beyond the joy of music, Jodi loves date nights with her husband, homeschooling her six kids, writing children's stories, and hiking the Tennessee trails with her family.
A native of Chattanooga, Jan has lived here most of her life. She and her husband, Allen, have lived on Signal Mountain since 2015. She has a B.A. in fine art from Tennessee Temple University, though after raising two daughters enjoyed employment in an administrative capacity at various businesses around the city. Currently, she works part-time at Salon 30A where she does everything but hair. Jan enjoys crochet, choir practice, entertaining at home, and having her two granddaughters over whenever they can come.
Nathan Ecarma was raised in Greenville, South Carolina, and moved to Dayton the summer of 2016. He graduated from Bryan College in 2019 (B.A. in Bible), and is working on his M.Ed, and is planning to attend seminary fall of 2021. He is married to Emily, and they have been known to be seen ascending rock walls and sitting at the array of coffee shops and good eats of Chattanooga. Nathan works at a local steel fabrication business.
In addition to serving as Wayside's maintenance coordinator, Tim also serves as a deacon. A long-time member at Wayside, he retired from Southern Cellulose Products in 2010 to work with Habitat for Humanity and to manage a property in McLemore Cove (N. GA). When he's not serving at Wayside and spending time in Colorado, Tim enjoys being a soccer referee and hiking/backpacking.
